Book Review : Drink, Slay, Love by Sarah Beth Durst

Pearl is a sixteen-year-old vampire... fond of blood, allergic to sunlight, and mostly evil... until the night a sparkly unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn. Oops.

Her family thinks she was attacked by a vampire hunter (because, obviously, unicorns don't exist), and they're shocked she survived. They're even more shocked when Pearl discovers she can now withstand the sun. But they quickly find a way to make use of her new talent. The Vampire King of New England has chosen Pearl's family to host his feast. If Pearl enrolls in high school, she can make lots of human friends and lure them to the King's feast -- as the entrees.

Oh you know, this book was your normal vampire-has-feelings kinda book.

But I didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I did.
I mean the book was about the traditional vamps, you know the ones who can't go into sunlight and choke on holy water etc etc.

So why was it so entertaining?

One Word.

UNICORNS.

I'm not even joking when I say there were unicorns in this book. I know I couldn't believe it either but OMG....I still can't over the fact that there were freaking unicorns in this badass book.

All reaction gifs, all the time!
Reaction gifs here!

Then we have our awesomesauce vampire: Pearl

If she were real and didn't find me appetizing, I think we could've been great friends. I loved Pearl's character. She is funny, sarcastic and one hell of a vamp.
Hair Flip

Oh, just so you know she comes from a deadly family full of scary vamps.

One day Pearl goes out on her normal 'hunt' a.k.a blood leeching a human and soon finds herself being stabbed by a unicorn horn.
jawdrop

Yeah, you read that right.

After getting stabbed by the mythical creature, Pearl doesn't die (duh, coz you know she's the main character and all) but she changes.

She starts doing things that normal vamps can't do.

Like walking in sunshine. Seeing your reflection and all that jazz.

Finger Guns
Her freaky parents use her abilities to their advantage which involves Pearl attending high school.

Now enter Evan the cutie, Pearl's new love interest. BTW Pearl already has a scary but sexy boyfriend named Jadrien.

There's ought to be a love triangle, right? Read the book to find out ;)

“To you,” he said, “I surrender my heart and soul.”
She rolled her eyes. “Very romantic, considering you have neither.”
Heart Beating

That's all I have time for today. Sorry for the clumsy review. I'm trying to structure my reviews so they are more detailed well put together but still interesting to read. Sadly, all that thinking and planning takes time and for a student who is in their final year of high school a.k.a me doesn't really have that time :(. For example, at the moment my time should be taken up by homework but I'm the pro in procrastinating, so yeah.

Enough of the rant.
Have a wonderful day!!
xoxo

Book Review | Spellbound By Rachel Hawkins

Spell Bound (Hex Hall, #3)

SynopsisJust as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.

Laughter, adventure, tears, magic and swooning- this book has it all! The perfect ending to a fabulous series!!

A truly perfect way to end the series, with lot's of action and humor combined to live up to the standards of other books in this trilogy. I just love Rachel Hawkins way of writing, she fills up the pages with anticipation, romance, humor, adventure and it makes the whole reading process seem enchanting and enthralling.

Spell Bound was a book that left me completely surprised by some of the revelations, there were many plot twists and turns that I never saw coming which is always a good thing. The reasons behind why the demons were being created was certainly intriguing; one thing I was disappointed in was the final battle scene, I felt it ended all too soon and was quite anti-climatic but despite this it was still a great read.

The humor in this story is what I have found to be most enjoyable, Sophie’s wit and the banter between her and Archer I find completely entertaining. She stayed true to herself despite what was going on around her.

Each of the secondary characters are wonderful, Elodie is a classic, Jenna the amazing best friend and the love interests Cal and Archer both perfect in their own way. I am hoping we see a Brannick spin-off.

In the end, everything was wrapped up perfectly, a classic happy ending.

Book Review | Demonglass By Rachel Hawkins

Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2)

Summary: Sophie Mercer thought she was a dark witch, but then discovered she was a demon. Demons are unpredictable, some with dark histories of even murdering loved ones. Sophie doesn't want to risk killing anyone she cares about. She's made up her mind to be stripped of her powers through a process called "The Removal". However, her father, who also happens to be a demon, doesn't think this is a good idea. Instead, he brings Sophie and two good friends to England for the summer, to persuade her to change her mind. What follows is an action packed adventure, in a book that most readers will have an incredibly hard time putting down.
